May 21, 2018

I spent an hour at work designing next month's window and trying to figure out how to make the shells look good under a box.

Altar Server Recruitment...

Someone got sleepy waiting for me in the car.

This made me giggle because Miss Purdue asked to get a picture with Riley.

May 19, 2018 OVGC Championships

We have all been looking forward to this day because it signals the end to old routines, old leotards, old music and just a very long season in general.  We were there all day between running fundraisers and working our shifts.  I went out to lunch with some other team moms which was lovely.  The meet did not go as well as Riley wanted but she ended with a smile on her face (and a very sore hand).

Okay, so this picture cracked me up.  That's Riley running beam timer for the judge.  I'm laughing because I stood up and took a picture and said, "Ooh, she's doing a good job." and the guy next to me said, "Is that your daughter on the beam?"  And I laughed and said, "No, she's the timer."

May 18, 2018 - Prepping

Riley's club championships are tomorrow and we are hosting.  After a full day of work, I picked up Riley and we drove to the gym to get everything set up.  She ended up getting pulled into coaching a class and then we also had to set up her fundraising table for tomorrow.

Her friend Claire came up with this fun idea for fundraising.  Kid will pay a dollar to put their handprint on the wall "got chalk" style.  Also, I'm impressed with my Riley wagon drawing.

May 17, 2018 - Safety

I wandered by a display asking what was wrong with this crib as far as Safe Sleep?  Of course, the only things that should be in a crib are baby and a pacifier, but this cracked me up.  We are in Indiana so the basketball is an interesting choice.

May 16, 2018

I spent the day at the Pediatric Conference in downtown Indy at the NCAA Hall of Fame.  I saw a lot of doctors I know, ate some yummy snacks and made some new friends.  I also learned a few things.  One of my favorite things was when Riley's first neonatologist brought the head of Maternal Fetal Medicine over to introduce us.  It made me feel good that he thought I was "worthy" of that introduction.

May 14, 2018 - Cupcakes

Riley insisted that we drive up to Nothing Bundt Cakes for bundtlettes for Mother's Day.  There was still a little piece of strawberries and cream this morning but not anymore.  HAHA

May 13, 2018

Church, then the store, then to the retirement home so Riley could deliver flowers, then to mom and dad's, then my aunt's, then to the post office and back to the store and home.

Happy Mother's Day, ya'll.

May 12, 2018 - You say it's your birthday

Yeah, today was just one of those days.  Our oven suffered a fatal glitch.  It's been a bit sketchy lately as far as working but today, while in the midst of making cookies, it switched from the bake setting to the auto clean.  So it sealed itself shut and went up to $500 degrees, with cookie dough inside.  It promptly got unplugged.

Also, it is Rick's birthday but he was making beer and he got started late so we all just sort of ate my homemade lasagna (yay, I got that done before the oven exploded) while wandering around the house trying to get things done.

But hey, this guy is 49 and still going strong.

May 11, 2018

Riley had her end of school band extravaganza tonight.  All of the bands play separately, then they play one song plus the school song together.  Riley was excited because the one song together was super easy so that the 7th graders would be able to play it.  Unfortunately, it did hurt quite a bit for her to play with her hand because she had to take the brace off to hit the low notes.

This is a picture of Riley's friend A after getting her tush and legs stuck in that tire.  Not to worry, she's laughing, not crying.

May 9, 2018

I walked into the store today after lunch and my co-worker told me that we had a wasp in the store.  She said it was up on the wall and sure enough, there it was.

Some time later, I looked up and it was no longer on the wall.  That's when I knew...I looked down and sure enough, the stupid thing was on my arm (I was wearing a sweater).  I very calmly flipped it off of me and smacked it with a kleenex box.

Me 1, Wasp 0

That's a picture of the wasp in the trash bag.  I kept waiting for it to fly up at me.  Blech!

May 8, 2018 - Yowch

I got to the gym to pick up Riley with plenty of time to watch a little bit of practice.  She saw me upstairs and came up to where I was chatting with a friend.  She told me that she had fallen on the beam and trapped her hand between her belly and the beam when she fell and that it hurt pretty badly.  The trainer wasn't at the gym so I did some poking and one I pressed one part, she screamed and started crying.  So we were off to the immediate care for an X-ray.  The good news, no fracture.  Bad news is a deep bone bruise, a sprain and possible tiny fracture.  They wanted to put her in a cast for a few weeks but we elected for a soft cast/splint that can be removed easily.  She has a concert in a few days, a meet in a week and a half and auditions for band for next year.  Poor kid.

That is the chicken stir fry that I got in the hospital cafeteria.  It was, first of all, probably 5 pounds of food.  And I was very excited about all of the fresh veggies that went in it.  But then he put a weird sweet and sour sauce on it that had pineapple and tomatoes in it.

One of our very good friends lost his dad so we drove down to the funeral after work/school.  His family was amazed by how much Riley has grown.  Yeah, we are too.

May 6, 2018

Today was another one of those days that I thought would help me get a lot done and maybe I did...but my house is still messy and my yard still needs to be mowed so I'm gonna say no to that.

Riley had a coach/parent/gymnast meeting.  We baked and delivered homemade cookies to people who donated money and we went to a confirmation meeting.  Rick and I worked to prep the garden and he mowed the very back of the yard.  Oh, and we went to visit a friend of Riley's who had surgery.

But...again, my house is still messy and I have laundry to put away and yeah, the rest of the lawn isn't gonna mow itself.

May 5, 2018

Last year, Rick ran in the Indy 500 mini marathon.  He did really well and finished in 1:37.  Unfortunately, Riley and I didn't see it.  I could not, for the life of me, find a place to park.  I had the app on my phone and saw that he had finished maybe two minutes before we walked up to the finish line.  It kind of set a sad tone for the rest of the day.
So this year, I work downtown and I have a pass for downtown parking.  I was concerned about closed roads but did a little research and crossed my fingers.  SOMEONE was grouchy that she had to get up early but we headed downtown and smooth as pie, parked in a university parking spot.
Within five minutes, we were at the finish line and got to watch the wheelchair racers and the winners cross the finish line a mere half hour before Rick did.  It was ridiculously exciting.   We were on our way back home before most runners even thought about crossing the line.  Maybe next year! :)
Rick went off to make beer and Riley drove us almost 3 hours south to our final dance marathon of the school year.  That puts us at 246 marathons and somewhere around 25 dance marathons this school year.  It was...fun.  The most interest part was when a complete stranger paid to have Riley put in jail so she would have to raise money to get out.  I refused to pay the bail.  HAHA.  They eventually let her out.  They also referred to her as Riley from IU.  Let's see, there was also an escape room which was a lot of fun.  Oh and Miss Indiana was there.  Rick wanted to know how many Miss Indiana's we've met.  I had no answer.  I know we are at 3 for Miss America.  Maybe half dozen?
